Counterstrike current thoughts:

counterstrike is a game that I grew up with in my childhood. It was a game that I was completely obsessed with. It was my escape from my mentally ill world. I became pretty good at counterstrike. I have about 4700 hours in the game and have attended a lan tournament where I got crushed. The game is not my identity anymore but I still want people to experience the beauty of the game. Here is my deleted steampost on the subject of weapon balance and the general state of the game:

intro sht

Brief introduction. I have about 4700 hours in cs2/go. I dabbled in a few local lans but overall I would probably be considered a casual.

TLDR why I care or smt

When playing competitively I've felt like the m4 ak and awp meta has become a bit stagnant to me. The game has not been fun for me recently. And I know that's deeply subjective. But instead of blaming myself I'm gonna blame the game. I just think the game shouldn't be limited to what it always has been. The game should stay as a "living document" I feel. Idk. To me, counterstrike has always been a live action + boots on the ground intuition strategy game. The only analogy I can think of is pre-computer chess. A lot of the times in middle game, players would have to rely on their intuition to derive strategies live over the board. That was borderline spiritual tbh That's how counterstrike felt to me when I was at my peak. But I don't feel that anymore (probably cuz I'm old). I still want new players to experience that. But I'm not really sure if they do.

Weak weapons I think need small tweaks / small buffs

smg

The UMP has been a really weak gun that I think needs a very SLIGHT buff. The damage falloff is way too strong; being forced to get 3 dinks at long range is kind of crazy. Mind as well use a glock at that point. It's more accurate. The Mp5 has been completely unchanged since csgo and it's position in the game kind of sucks. It's really weak as well. The silencer is not enough to justify its use. It's $1500 and when compared to the mp7 or even cheaper options like the mp9 there's never a reason to use it. It could be used in a lurk role, but at that point any weapon would be useful in that role. The pp-bizon. I have no clue where this weapon should fit in to the meta and I can understand why it's too weak. Because any change to the weapon could probably break the meta with such a large capacity. At the same time, the p90 currently isn't considered OP, why is it $1400 when the mp9 is so strong? It also has a C shaped spray pattern that really isnt seen anywhere else in the game. But there's no reason to ever explore a spray pattern other than the ak/m4.
the "meme guns"
The m249 needs love. If it's 5200 there needs to be at least something going for it other than high capacity to justify its use past a meme gun. The negev was such a great example of leaning into that meme status without destroying it nor making it overpowered. It's also such a unique mechanic that the m249 definitely deserves. The r8 revolver. This gun is also too weak. I feel like the only change it needs is the accuracy. I think having a more accurate deagle but being forced to pay more and at the cost of delay made a lot of sense. Right now the gun is like this weird "oh sht they're rushing gotta hold down the button and pray for bodyshot." Very slight buff is definitely required. Sawed-off this gun is only good on like office. Like if it's going to be a meme gun, it should at least have the same range as the other shotguns or at least have some kind of buff to compensate for that lost range. p2000, I feel like this gun should just be used more. Idk if there's even the slightest buffs that would be justified for this gun since it's already a good gun. It's just that it's always overshadowed by the USP-s because the silencer is so good on it.

rifle

Galil, gun is probably ok, it does see use. Maybe a microscopic buff to first shot accuracy because it's really bad, i think it's about the same as p90 but i could be wrong. Famas burst got nerfed :( which is understandable. I used to abuse it in mirage mid by dinking people with burst. It was definitely needing a change. But now it's just in this weird spot where it's like, why even have burstfire at all? I'm not advocating for the removal of it's burstfire, I just think there needs to be a little bit more incentive to use it if accuracy isn't going to be there anymore. Maybe very microscopic accuracy buff? The last guns would be the cod guns. The sg 553 got super nerfed. The biggest part of the sg 553 was that it had more accuracy than the AK at the cost of movement speed. Pre nerf the gun was just better AK in all aspects. The movespeed has always been (as far as i know) 5 units less than the ak at 225 instead of ak at 230. I think the current state of the gun is fine except that first shot accuracy should be buffed slightly. Maybe 1% buff either that or a slight decrease in the cost. Because right now the gun costs more than original and is so much worse over the ak. There's literally no point in ever using it. As for the aug, i dont really know. I think maybe a return to its original price since the gun functions as it probably should have at its old price.

RADICALS (the crazy stuff)

This part is reserved for more wacky things that I think the game needs. BUT not necessarily should be added to the game because it's more of me just experimenting with ideas. In hope that it leads to some kind of innovation / progress / freshness for the game. Because right now the game is almost too perfect for it's own good. And it makes me sad that counter-strike is no longer an experimental celebration of its genre but a polished craftsmanship that is doomed to sit on a shelf for a long time.

utility

When I played with my valorant friends. The two things I noticed was spray pattern and smokes. They did not want to learn spray patterns nor smokes. They were invested in a different game and were just exploring it; why put the time into something you're not going to be playing for a long time. I think this sucks. It's very clearly a barrier to entry for new players. Since like I started the game smokes have always been an issue. Sometimes even I don't want to learn smokes. The community has done a great job at teaching smokes, and even valves addition of those train smoke thingies was good. I have a proposal. A smoke that explodes like a molotov. It should be something that new players can use but isn't a competitive advantage. I remember a long time ago when we would play dust 2 in csgo. That people would always miss the cross smoke, because they didn't have a lineup they would just free throw it and bounce it off the wall. Those were the type of people that wanted to enjoy the game. It seems to me that most players don't even bother buying utility, they just wanna play cod or something idk. I think lowering the skill barrier with the addition of a "smoke molly" could help nudge in that direction. My mentality is this: "Don't know smokes? no worries, use smoke molly, just left click it where you need it eg dust 2 cross." It's kind of unfair that the responsibility has been pushed onto the one guy who knows smokes to smoke for the entire team. Other crazy sht would be adding a grenade trajectory preview to casual. Because I see nades as the sandbox for the game. They shape and mold like clay onto the game into more interesting things than just a death-match zone.

Potential weapon additions

Another thing is my friend asked if there was a weapon that functioned like the guardian in valorant. And the closest answer I could give was either the AK, scout, deagle, or ssg 553. Spraying is an integral part of the game. But the screaM playstyle was nerfed some yonder ago and then reworked with intelligent stuff that i don't quite understand. Why not just have a weapon that is competitively viable but not advantageous? in the sense that the AK will always be better. A single fire ak-ish weapon that could replace the galil would go a long way I'd say. Riot shield. This is really crazy but the B tunnels rush is depressing. Like Ive noticed especially after a bad experience b tuns people subconsciously avoid that part of the map. Like I don't really think this fits in counterstrike but it's an idea worth playing around with. Like we can't just restrict ourselves to textbook cs just because it's gospel. Just something to stop the "Who stopped in b tuns? oh mah gawd bro, green why u stop?" Single Beretta I know it's a meme but I think it would be an interesting side grade to the glock. a night map for counterstrike, come on please bro there NEEDS to be a night map plz bro it would be so fun plzzzz. PLZZ. Like that would just be so awesome.

even crazier weapon stuff

Unscoped awp type weapon. Basically it would function the same as the awp except you only get full accuracy (as if scoped) when like crouched or something. I like the idea of the terrorists having a mosin type weapon since it's usually riskier to have an awp on t-side. Or a shotgun with slug rounds, that functions similar to this unscoped awp idea. Mixing the mobility the t's need with the power of the awp the t's need. (again this probably doesn't make sense since the scout exists but yeah.) Utility bow. A compound bow that shoots all of the utility but with different trajectory that functions more like how a bow would function. Going back to the theme of utility being the shaping force of counterstrike. It could spice things up. Impact grenades, I don't even know. But it would be cool to see how that affects the balance of the game. Im not suggesting this be added to the game, but I think it's an idea that should be played with. It would lead to insight about utility in counterstrike. A wall bang gun. A weapon specifically designed for only wallbangs. Something that's single bullet and only works when like stationary and takes a long time. What comes to mind for real life inspiration is the 14.5mm PTRS anti tank gun thingy. This is definitely way too crazy for cs2. But I bring it up to mention wallbanging. I think the game needs just a tad bit more wallbanging with slightly gimmicky weapons or something.
miscellaneous stuff that just should be considered again for the sake of the game
The replay system. I think what would be cool is if the game rewarded you by letting you see your flashes flashbang the enemy in post game review. That would be fucking SICK. And would 100% incentive players to use utility more often. Also, why was the casual replay on death system removed? It was good. Destructible objects The mirage vent is the first thing that comes to mind. Followed by market shutters. Destruction has been experimented with in that warowl video. What I think still has a place in the game is a piece of cover that functions like the mirage vent that you shoot to break. Except it would be placed in a middle area where both teams have a chance to decide on what to do with that breakable object. In a similar vein to dust 2 mid. Physics objects have almost been entirely removed in counterstrike. They probably don't have a place in the competitive game. But I think they should still have support for the sake of community servers. The artsyle of the game has drifted in the same way I think tf2's "death of an artstyle" has drifted. But I don't really care about skins so as much as I'd like for this to be considered it's not really my place to say. Lore: The game has lost its lore. I think this type of stuff keeps people coming back and it's really sad to see this stuff go. Like if cs2 wants to take a more apolitical approach they could at least take a few influences from like r6siege and provide reasons why the teams are fighting. Like those teaser videos for csgo i feel like still represent quintessential counterstrike. But we never got one of those lore videos for CS2. Like the whole "a new beginning stuff" but overall it still feels like the devs are playing cleanup and logistics with various bugs and other stuff. I think the over focus on the cheater problem is partially a symptom of the fact that it feels like there's nothing else to do in the game. I think the community may be more forgiving if they had more things to do other than competitive.

Conc:

i've rambled long enough. A lot of these things ive said in the radicals section is mostly just speculation and "I feel" statements. Ultimately I just want counterstrike to exit its mold of perfection and keep working towards it. The game is not actually perfect and never will be. There are weapons and features in the game already that are just neglected and could easily be reintroduced to the game to make it "better" or more attractive to new players. The rock paper scissors element of AKs m4s, awp, and utility is the core soup of the game, why not use those other elements of the game that have been sitting there to make the game more "counterstrikey"? Thanks for reading do what is best for your wellness. Goodbye. :steammocking::csgoct:

work in progress!!
